Smoking and cancer: two twin pandemics
Among adults, approximately 20-40% are smokers and 20-30% of them will develop lung cancer throughout their lives. Lung cancer is the most prevalent cause of death among cancer patients and the fifth most prevalent cause of death worldwide. As a result, it is significant for each one of us to avoid or stop smoking and at the same time to investigate the biological roots of the disease so that in the end we can eliminate it. Our laboratory is currently using animal models in our expreriments which help us find the causes of the disease and develop new treatments.
